Visuals

Melissa Follestad Larsen and Joao Pereira like to call themselves visualists. They are the minds behind the lasers and video projections that are immersing the stage area into otherworldly atmospheres at night.

Melissa and Joao have been deeply involved with the stage design and in charge of the visuals since the first edition of our festival. They do the visuals at most of our Oslo events, elevating the musical experience to new heights with their three-dimensional and holistic approach.

“Our vision is based on many years of experience and knowledge of the crew and what Monuments stand for”, Joao says. “And we always try to look at the whole picture, adapting to the specific surrounding”, Melissa adds.

We are grateful to have them on board and are excited for many more journeys to come together with the duo!

Dome with EWO Collectif

Eyes Wide Open is a collective that creates utopic and ephemeral experiences, and musical and visual moods that transcend our physical world.

A dome where time and space cease to exist, immersing visitors in a 360° sonic and visual landscape.

The concept behind this project is based on the Temazcal, a ceremony practised in Mexico since the pre-Hispanic period. Originating with the people inhabiting Mesoamerica, Temazcal comes from these three words: Tetl means rock, Mazitli means hot, and Cali means house. Altogether it is interpreted as “House of the burning rocks”. The indigenous people of Mexico employed this physical and spiritual healing bath as a means of purification. The idea is to connect with the cosmos, with nature, to explore our relationship with mother earth. In the dome, visitors will experience this connection to nature through sound and vision: a “House of the singing wood”.

Everything is vibration.

From creation to the decomposition of the matter, the dome will make us explore the infinity of the form possibilities created by the universe.”

Silje Egeland

Silje Egeland is a Norwegian artist who explores patterns and creates geometric art.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the calmness that repetitive actions bring. I find motivation in architecture, geometry and minimalism.

Through sculpture, drawing and visuals, my goal is to give a sense of peace and satisfaction to the observer.”

This year, Silje will bring three of her sculptures and take care of decorating the fence that leads to the Festival Area.

Experimental Stage Project

The people behind the Experimental Stage Project come from different scientific disciplines but have one common goal: Sparking fascination for science by making it palpable with all senses in new and creative ways.

Over the past seven years, they have set up a broad range of installations based on natural phenomena in unusual contexts. Read our Q&A with the Experimental Stage Project here.

This year, they will bring a selection of their installations that are blurring the boundaries between art and science to the new “Haven” area at Monument Festival. Look out for the big, red tent!
